Kinloch Cricket Club
Brief History -
Formed in 1905 as, in all but name, a second eleven to the powerful Dundee Parks club Inverary, Kinloch played much of their first half century in local Parks competitions or just in friendlies only. They were mostly unsuccessful until the 1960s, when they began to dominate the various Public Parks tournaments. By 1969, and with many Parks sides folding, Kinloch sought entry to the old 2nd Division of The Strathmore Union.
After 10 years they won the first of four 2nd Division titles and finally in 1999 after five losing finals, the Two Counties Cup. Perhaps the high point of the club's history came in 1992 when they reached the semi final of the Small Clubs Cup.
Originally based at Lochee Park in Dundee, they moved to play at University Grounds St Andrews in 1998 due to the declining facilities for cricket in Dundee. They were promoted to the 1st Division of The Strathmore Union in 2002 and promptly won it but declined the step up to the top flight. They remained at that level through the merger with the Perthshire League in 2004, often flirting more with relegation than promotion. However a vintage season in 2010 saw them finish runner up in Division One and with an enhanced playing strength opted to take the final step to the Union's top flight for 2011.
Although based in the home of golf on matchdays, Kinloch would still see themselves as a Dundee side and only the second one from its Public Parks, after the late lamented Telecoms, to reach the Union's highest level.
